Art classes teach skills needed in all aspects of life, all fields of work, that are not taught by the memorization of facts. You learn to critically analyze information, rather than just passively accept it. You learn to make decisions for yourself and judgments for yourself. In our world, judgment is very important. Visualizing the outcome of a decision is key in any situation you are in. Whether it’s judging a person’s character, or judging a financial decision. You must know how to think critically to make the right decisions. Art helps you make decisions. Each decision in your art is your own. It also helps you envision how the piece will look in the future if you make one decision.
You can also combine other subjects into art. I thought it was interesting when the article talked about teachers combining geometry with observational drawing. There are many subjects that coincide with art. Math, science, social studies and literature can all correspond with any art form.
This article helped me realize how critical art is towards critical thinking and decision-making. Student’s thoughts flow clearer with the presence of art. Art helps student’s logic, and helps them think more about their consequences. Art helps create a well-rounded, logical person.
